The Lambani tribe, also known as Banjara, are originally a nomadic people. A significant settlement exists in the Sandur region of Karnataka.
The embroidery they weave is bold, vibrant and rich in color. The Lambani art is characterized by geometric patterns, such as triangles, squares, and circles. What sets this art form apart is the inclusion of coins, shells and mirrors inside the geometric patterns.
The multi-colored blouse, skirt, and veil are an identity for Lambani women, which over time has become their identity. This art has become modern and is applied to accessories such as home furnishings and cloth bags.
